Project Description Comments

A computer program which allows users to be much more productive while having to learn much less.
Dear contributors,

We are Mircea, Ludwig and Horia, three software developers and managers. We believe that we can improve a lot the user experience when using a computer; we believe that using the program “Command Center” many people will have less stress and more fun when working with computers; and we believe that many children will be happy to be able to play and experience with a computer when using the program “Command Center for Little Kids”, a version for the children who cannot read and write.

This campaign is trying to raise money needed for the implementation and marketing of the versions 1.0 of the products.

Why “Command Center” and "Command Center for Little Kids"?

In the last years we observed a lot of people (family, friends, colleagues) having major difficulties when using their computers, tablets and smartphones. We tried to understand why they have difficulties and we realized, among others, that they have to learn too much, that they have to remember too much and the user interfaces of those devices were not offering always the levels of needed functionality. One of the major handicaps was when they have to deal with a user interface in a language they didn’t understand.

Perhaps you observed those aspects in yours experience or looking at your children, spouse, parents, grandparents or colleagues.

A common user who will use the “Command Center” version 1.0 will have, on average, to learn and remember 50 times less and will be about 5 times more productive compared with the actual solutions.

A kid who will use the “Command Center for Little Kids” will be able to access functionality not available with the current solutions. The children who cannot read and write, indifferent of age, have few ways to use a computer with current solutions. We designed and implemented a program to extend a lot the functionality actually offered to the kids, from communications to learn activities.

What are “Command Center” and "Command Center for Little Kids"?

The “Command Center” is a computer program (actually a collection of programs) offering, compared with actual solutions, a much better user experience. It is an alternative to the native user interface (it can be used parallel to the native user interface). The program has an intuitive and logical user interface, making the learning and remembering processes unnecessary, offers a one-click implementation to reach any functionality. It is melting, transparently for the user, some desktop and internet tasks. It is self explanatory and is offering at any moment help functionality. We implemented different skins for different types of users.

The version 1.0 of the “Command Center” program will be available on Windows desktops, servers and notebooks, serving about 90% of the desktop, server and notebook users. Later versions will be ported to Apple’ OS X and Linux and to the most important mobile ones, allowing the user to work with a completed unknown computer type (i.e. Windows users working without learning on Linux computers).

A lot of effort will be made to avoid “lowest common denominator” situations and to implement as much as possible missing functionality on “poor” devices.

The “Command Center for Little Kids” is a computer program (actually a collection of programs) designed especially for kids who cannot read and/or write.  It is our contribution to allow kids to learn more and have a lot of fun when playing with a computer.

In a familiar environment they will able to use some functionality unreachable until now for them.  It is self explanatory and is offering at any moment help functionality.

The version 1.0 of the “Command Center for Little Kids” program will be available on Windows desktops, servers and notebooks. Later versions will be ported to Apple’ OS X and Linux and to the most important mobile ones.

We hope to help as many children as possible worldwide with our program.

Wonderful software was created through the contributions of many people; we will implement the best ideas coming as feedback from our users.

Why are “Command Center” and "Command Center for Little Kids" better than other solutions?

Some scenarios.

Scenario 1 – You never used a computer before.

You will be able to use the computer immediately without having to learn where to look for programs, settings and so on; you will use a self explanatory, logical interface to the computer, without having to learn computer terminology. With only one click you will be able to reach the functionality you need having all the time an active help system supporting you.

Scenario 2 – You will switch from Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 to Windows 8.x.

You may use the “Command Center” to work with the computer like you did before, without learning anything about the new Windows 8.x interface.

Scenario 3 – You are a highly skilled computer user.

You may use the special software contained in the “Command Center” to be much more productive.

Scenario 4 (not in Version 1.0) – You will switch and/or work accidentally from Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 to Apples’ OS X or to Linux.

You will install the “Command Center” on the new computer and you will work on the new computer like you did before: if you will not use the programs which come with “Command Center” that emulate programs like “Windows Explore” you will have to learn how to use the corresponding programs on the new computer, i.e. “Finder” on Apple and “Dolphin” on Linux.

The “Command Center” contains a lot of programs optimized for an easy use. If you will use those programs you will have to learn nothing or almost nothing. But the “Command Center” will not help you at all inside other programs like Photoshop or IrfanView: you will have to learn how to use those programs and you will have no advantages when using those programs on a computer where the “Command Center” software is installed.

On the other hand, standard activities, like writing emails and letters, are fully supported and optimized by the “Command Center” software.

What We Need & What You Get

After years of analyzing, designing, defining and implementing we have the two fully functional prototypes of the “Command Center” and “Command Center for Little Kids”. It took time and money, and we have been doing this project on our own funding as long as we could.

Now we want to raise money to finance the further development activities in order to have ready-to-market products. We need so much money in order to be able to work full time to develop the products. We will establish a company called “NextGen Software” and we will hire 7 software professionals to help us implement the products.

All the extra fund raised will be used to further develop the next versions of the products.

We will translate the products in about 100 human languages and we will be ready with the version 1.0 of the products in February 2016.

You will receive, depending on your choice you make, one or more copies of the "Command Center" program.

We will offer for free one million copies of the kids’ version of the program to the children in the poorest 100 countries.  We can only hope that from other aids they will have enough computers, in kindergartens, in schools and at home.
